Dougie Imrie post Celtic match

Accies Captain Dougie Imrie spoke to the press and our Martin McConnell following the match at Celtic Park…….

Dougie would you like to sum up?

“We’re all a bit disappointed as I think we were in the game for the vast majority of it. Albeit that Celtic had much of the possession, but they didn’t really create a lot. We nullified them through the central areas and tried to make them play wide. They put plenty of crosses into the box but I thought we defended those well. It was just another one of those days in which nothing seemed to go for us.”

You must feel for Ryan. He kept you in the game but made two mistakes.

“That’s the thing, he was magic in the game and made some great saves. Early on in the game and then just before half time when Callum McGregor shot, takes a couple of ricochets and blows all over the place. It’s disappointing for him because he knows himself and we’ve just got to pick him up. He’s had a tough week and now we’ll get him going again.”

I suppose that’s life as a keeper isn’t it?

“It is, because if that’s a striker missing that, we probably wouldn’t even be speaking about it. It’s just part of the game where the keeper makes one mistake and gets scrutinised for it. It’s just part and parcel of the game and the position that he plays. Like I said, we’ll rally around him on Monday and get him going again. He’s a fantastic keeper and it’s just unfortunate that he’s had the worst footballing week of his life.”

You get that one chance that you’re looking for at 1-0 down when big Ajer comes in and manages too….

“Well I think we also had a chance with Tony in the first half. You know it’s just behind Tony and he has to take another touch. If it’s in his path then he gets the strike away with right foot, which is his strongest foot. If he then gets inside the box I’d take Tony to score with a chance like that. It’s just behind him when he needs to take a touch, by that time the two Celtic defenders have him closed down and the chance goes amiss. But Boydy’s chance in the second half, the wee man said that a defender got a block on it and that’s why we got the corner. It was good defending from them but on another day could have been 1-1. It could then have been difficult for Celtic as at that stage we’d have been right back in the game, and they’d have needed to come at us again and break us down again.”
