Aaron McGowan post Hibs match

A disappointed Aaron McGowan shared his thoughts following the defeat to Hibs…

It was a good first half performance. What happened in the second?

“Let’s be honest, we were unreal. The second half just wasn’t good enough from us. We’ve now found ourselves in a difficult position in the league. As I say, in the first half we found ourselves on top, but when you’re on top you’ve got to take your chances. Goals do change games and you’ve got to take that chance to go a goal up and give yourself something to hold on to. You saw what they did, they were clinical in the second half. The one chance that they did score from wasn’t even the best of their chances, then he goes and sticks it in the top bin. That’s the difference if I’m being honest. At the moment we’re not being clinical at either end of the pitch. So, we’ve got to change and change quickly. Otherwise it’s going to be a long slow season. I don’t want that and I’m sure that everyone here at Hamilton doesn’t want that. That’s got to change.

How are the boys feeling now?

“We’re all gutted. It’s hard to comprehend how we can be so good and let’s have it right, being so poor. I thought Hibs were there for the taking today. I think if we’d gone a goal up then we would have won comfortably. It’s a difference in levels and that’s why we’re where we are and why they’re a top club at this level.”

What happened with the keepers before the match?

“I’m not too aware of the situation but Jan was due to start in goal. Obviously when you’re warming up, you’re not always too aware of what’s going on elsewhere. So when I’ve gone into the dressing room I’ve seen Jan with ice held to his foot but I’m not sure  exactly what has happened. Woodsy has gone in goal and towards the end of the half after making a great save, came out and did something to his knee in the collision. Then Jacob has come in and done really well and kept us in the game if I’m being honest. He’s buzzing. He works really hard in training behind the scenes, which no one ever sees. It’s his professional and SPFL debut which is great for him. Hopefully he can now keep his place in the side.”
