On Wednesday, 3rd October, we make our first appearance in UEFA club competitions.
By virtue of our u17 side winning the Club Academy Scotland Elite Youth League last season – Played 24, Won 20 Drew 4 Lost 0 – the Scottish FA submitted our name to UEFA to be Scotland’s representative in the UEFA Youth League, Domestic Champions Path – an u19 competition.
The draw took place in Nyon four weeks ago and we were paired with Swiss side Basel, who are experienced in this competition.
This Wednesday we face the Swiss team at the Leichtathletik Stadion St Jakob in Basel at 4pm local time.
UEFA have appointed FIFA referee Laurent Kopriwa from Luxembourg to handle the game.
The return leg will be here at our stadium in three weeks, on Wednesday 24th October, 7pm.
The club would like to thank Basel and UEFA for their co-operation and assistance in our preparation for these important games.
Academy Director George Cairns commented, “This is a wonderful experience for our kids and a great reward for winning the youth league last season. By competing in the French u17 tournament over the last three years, winning it twice, this has also given them experience of playing other continental sides. We therefore go into the game with confidence and we will look to do well. Everyone is really looking forward to it and I’m sure the players will represent us well.”
