Accies web reporter Mark Gillespie caught up with striker James Keatings after Saturday’s game
After the performance last week this was a disappointing afternoon. What went wrong today?
James Keatings: We’ve not started the game properly. We didn’t show the right intensity, but we’ve shown a good reaction in the second half, in getting chances, and obviously hitting the woodwork. On another day that goes in and it’s a different match.
You had a good influence on the game when you came on? We carried a lot more threat going forward.
JK: It was quite tight when I came on. I was hoping to get onto some of the long balls and get at their back four. It was good to finally get back on the pitch, but obviously not a great result overall.
You scored for the reserves in midweek from a similar position as today’s free kick. Set pieces are something you hope to contribute to the team this season?
JK: I’ve been hitting them over the last few years, and I’ll keep practising and hopefully get a few goals from it.
Today gave you a taste of first team action this season. You’ll be keen to make your case for a regular start?
JK: I came in and hadn’t had a pre-season. For the last two or three weeks I’ve been doing a programme to get me fit. I’ve still got another week to go on that, and hopefully get much sharper and stronger.
Hopefully I can be involved. We’ll have to sit down on Monday and look over what went wrong today, and make sure we don’t repeat the same mistakes.
Are you seeing a big difference around the place from your last spell at the club?
JK: There’s been a lot improvements behind the scenes and obviously inside the stadium. It’s on the up and I’m loving being back. The boys and the manager have been great so far and I’m looking forward to repaying that this season
