A very young Accies XI, comprising mainly 16 and 17 year olds, defeated Lowland League side Dalbeattie at Islecroft Stadium by 4-0 on Wednesday night (25th July).
It was a good test for the youngsters, but ultimately proved a good learning experience for both sides, with Star’s Lowland League campaign beginning on Saturday at Kelty.
We took the lead in the 2nd minute after good work by Taylor Wilson and Liam Scullion set up Sean Slaven who finished from close range.
Jack Breen then came close before Connelly denied Brotherston, but we doubled our lead in the 12th minute when Niyah Joseph poked home Slaven’s cross from the left touchline. Mimnaugh and Joseph came close before Slaven added his second and our third in the 38th minute when he fired home Adam Douglas’s cross.
In the second period subs Marc Kelly and new recruit Hamish Morrison combined well for a good chance before we netted a fourth in the 70th minute. Andy Winter, not long on, chased down a ball but the keeper just beat him to it on the edge of the penalty area, but could only clear it as far as skipper Jack Breen, 40 yards from goal, who simply powerfully returned the ball back goalwards and into the net, for a good finish.
Reilly and Joseph then did well before another good stop by Connelly late on.
A comfortable 4-0 win, and a clean sheet for Ross Connelly, in very pleasant and sunny surroundings, and as always well looked after by the good folks at Dalbeattie.
