New Signing | Sam Kelly

New Signing | Sam Kelly

The club can confirm that attacking midfielder Sam Kelly will become our 5th summer signing, arriving at New Douglas Park from Grimsby Town.

The 24 year old Englishman came through the youth ranks at Everton before moving to Norwich and onto Port Vale – where he made 49 appearances in League One.

Speaking to Accies TV, Kelly said: ‘’I’ve heard a lot about the club and I’m very pleased to be here. I worked under Alex Neil at Norwich, he was a great manager and taught me a lot. When I spoke to the gaffer here, it ticked all the boxes. From the discussions, I tick a lot of boxes for him as well; I’m a creative player, I’m fast and can play centrally or wide.’’

Manager Martin Canning said: ‘’We’re delighted to be able to bring Sam to the club. We are well aware we need to add to our creative and attacking options in midfield and Sam fits the bill.

‘’He’s played a good number of first team games in the Football League down South and we think, at 24, he’s one who has the attributes to succeed in the Scottish Premiership.”

(Our last signing from Grimsby Town was much travelled striker Colin Cramb when he returned for his second spell here in January 2005)
