With the 2017-18 Ladbrokes Premiership season now behind us, against all the odds on and off the field, the club was successful in securing its fifth consecutive season in the top flight of Scottish football.
On the field the season had started well; our first team picking up seven points out of 12 in the first four games of the season. Then came along an unprecedented level of bad luck, with key players getting injured at a critical part of the season; some being long term and others short term. No sooner had we got one back to fitness and on the park, another was in the treatment room.
Whilst that occurred on the field, the bad luck continued off it. During this spell, a disastrous October was compounded as the club was targeted and were victims of a scam that saw £989,000 stolen from our accounts leaving the club with no money in the bank. All of the club – owners, directors, players, staff and fans – pulled together at one of the club’s darkest periods since being at New Douglas Park. It’s not necessary to single any person out but we had players playing through extreme pain, staff working extra hours and fans volunteering to help any way they could at a time of us being in the middle of a relegation battle.
‘Yet, most importantly, we are still here alive and proving doubters wrong.’
During all of this our other off field activities never stopped. We made numerous school visits to chat with kids, were actively out working in the local area helping less fortunate members of our community plus much more.
The social conscience of this Football Club is now being recognised, not only by the football world but within the Scottish Government and we truly believe the best is yet to come.
I would like to give a special Thank You to all of our loyal fans along with our magnificent sponsors who have helped make survival possible during these very hard times. We are delighted to say that, against all odds, work has commenced on a new top quality playing surface. It will not only accommodate our first team matches but will also play a major part in the development of our rising stars in what we believe is the country’s best Youth Academy for promoting players into the first team – not to mention our title-winning Under 17 team who, remarkably, finished the season undefeated.
Youth Academy Fundraising Initiative
As we strive towards providing the best facilities possible for our already successful Youth Academy and continue to promote the first team players of the future, we would like to announce a new affordable fundraising initiative that will help us continue sustaining and growing what we hope will be a top Youth Academy within Project Brave.
We are inviting our fans and friends that love the club to keep us at the top of the Academy tree to support our Academy by setting up a monthly standing order direct to our Development account.
No matter how big or how small, every penny helps develop your stars of the future. For example, if we could get 100 fans to donate £5 or £10 per month this would be a significant step forward; help the Academy to buy the best equipment and, ultimately, allow us to further develop an environment which will enable us to continue to nurture the talent of the future.
To join, or for more information about the initiative, please contact Shaun Fagan (Commercial Manager) via e-mail [email@example.com] or phone [01698 368650] .
