For the third successive year our u17s are off to Normandy in France to take part in the 28th International Youth u17 Cup organised by ESMGO Gonfreville l’Orcher in Northern France.
We have won the trophy in each of the last two seasons, defeating French premier side Guingamp in 2016 and top Russian side Dynamo Moscow last season.
The tournament has teams from France and foreign guests, including from Algeria and Brazil for the first time this year.
We have Taylor Wilson, Ross Connelly and Sean Slaven all going for the third successive year. Our squad will be a mix of u15-u17 Academy players, with Dougie Imrie and Darian MacKinnon in charge.
We are drawn in a group with French 2nd Division side US Quevilly, Algerian side ES Setif and Brazilian Academy team Sport Experience.
The other group has hosts Gonfreville l’Orcher, local French 2nd division side Le Havre, plus top Spanish side Athletic Bilbao and Russians Dynamo Moscow.
On Saturday 19th we play US Quevilly at 130pm local; on Sunday 20th we play Sport Experience at 10am local and ES Setif at 4pm local. On Monday 21st we will have two games to determine the final placings.
All games are at Stade Maurice Baquet in Gonfreville l’Orcher. As an added bonus there is a lower league French match on Saturday evening.
