Youth Cup Defeat

logo-hp

Our u20s lost at home to holders Celtic in the 3rd round of the Little Big Shot Scottish FA Youth Cup at NDP on Sunday afternoon (8th November).
Both sides had received a bye to round 3. Our elimination means we now enter in Round  1 next season.
In a match played in dreadful conditions, with incessant torrential rain and winds, it was the cup holders who killed the game off early with three goals in the opening 15 minutes, and that was how the score remained.
Skipper Fiacre Kelleher gave the visitors a 5th minute elad and that was quickly followed by efforts from the ever lively Joe Thomson (14 mins) and Calvin Miller (15 mins). Both sides valiantly tried to create chances as the conditions worsened thereafter, with Steven Boyd, Marc Kelly and Ryan Tierney all testing Celtic. The holders also created several more, but Alex Marshall kept them at bay. 3-0 Celtic the final score, and they go to St Johnstone in round 4.

Incredibly, and boding well for the future, of our 16 players, 15 are still eligible for next season’s competition (only skipper Scott McMann isn’t). Of the 15, five can still play next year, a further five can still play in two seasons time, three can still play in three seasons time, while two are still eligible for the Youth Cup in four seasons time!

Accies: Marshall, Reilly, McMann (c), Want, C Granger, Hughes, Simpson (C Scullion 60), Cunningham, Tierney, Boyd (S Granger 73), Kelly. Subs unused S Connelly, Quitongo, McCracken
Referee: Tony Kelly Assistants Steven McKay and Michael MacDermid. Attendance: 329
