Ali Crawford Interview

Accies midfielder Ali Crawford, scorer of the fourth and final goal, spoke post-match after putting in a Man of the Match display against Dundee. Although Hamilton put in a season’s best performance at the SuperSeal, Ali felt that the job is only half done, saying:

“We had to win to make sure that we remain in the Premiership for the moment and we did that comfortably. It’s a good performance to take us into Thursday night now and hopefully it gives us a bit of momentum. So hopefully we can go and do the business and still be in the Premiership next year.”

“On Tuesday we were unlucky not to take something from the game, we played the same way we did on Tuesday and took it into the game and finally took some chances. Throughout the season when we’ve been 1-0 up, we’ve not hit the second or third to kill the game. We did that today and it was pleasing to see and it’s good to take into Thursday night now as it’s a massive game for us.”

In such a big game, Ali felt that scoring the first goal was crucial to Accies chances of getting the result, saying, “It’s always good to get the first goal. Obviously most of the time in this league, if you score first you’re more than likely to go on and take something from the game. It was good to get that goal and settle ourselves down a bit, we then played well throughout the game, so it was a good day at the office.”

All thoughts of pre-match nerves were quickly forgotten as soon as the match kicked off, “I think that the way we started the game put that to bed a wee bit. If it was going to be a tight game, we came out the box firing like we did on Tuesday and we thoroughly deserved the three points today.”

He didn’t watch the Semi Final Playoff between the Tangerines and the Bairns, but feels that Accies are the favourites over the two legs of the Play Offs Final. He said, “Personally I didn’t watch, but I know the gaffer was away watching the game. If we can play the way we did today on Tuesday night, I think we have a decent chance of staying in the Premiership.”

“Well they have played four games already and we have a massive advantage, they’ve had tough games and been taken to the wire. But as I said if we can play like we did today, then I think we’ll have no problems.”

“We’re the Premiership team and you’re always going to have that bit stronger squad. They are where they are, and if they were strong enough, they’d still be in the Premiership. So, as I said, if we play like we did today, go up there and get a positive result, then hopefully we can bring it back here on Sunday and finish the job.”

Ali admitted that the win against the Dens Park men was a bit of a relief, when he said, “Going into the split, we would have thought that we would have taken a couple of results and that never happened. So it probably is a bit of a relief to go and win today, and take the pressure off by not getting relegated today. So, we have given ourselves a chance of staying in the league and hopefully we can do the business.
