u20s lose out to Motherwell

An incredible Development League fixture on Monday night saw Accies reduced to 9 men, leaad 3-0, but Motherwell come back in the last 20 minutes to win 4-3.

The game, at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium, saw Ross Cunningham give us a 6th minute lead with a lovely finish after good work by Tierney. Skipper Shaun Want was red carded for denying a clear or obvious goalscoring opportunity in the 12th minute, penalty Motherwell, but Darren jamieson saved the spot kick. Marc Kelly was unfortunately sacrificed as we put on another defender, with Danny O’Halloran replacing him. Ronan Hughes then put the Accies 10 men 2-0 up in the 18th minute with another good finish.

Birthday boy, 19, Ryan Tierney made it 3-0 Accies in the 61st minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the area before Motherwell got a second penalty, and scored this time to reduce the leeway in the 68th minute. Lewis Ferguson then became our second sending off when he went for serious foul play after a tackle.

With Accies down to 9 men, Motherwell very quickly upped a gear and netted three goals in the 77th, 79th and 83rd minutes, with Hastie netting a hat trick.

An incredible mini-derby with 7 goals, 2 reds, 2 penalties to keep the 200 crowd entertained, but Motherwell moved three points clear of us into second place.
