20s lose final game of season

Our u20s lost their final game of the season at Tannadice on Tuesday, amazingly by 9-1 (1-0 at Half time) to Dundee United.

There had been a few early chances for each team, with Boyd and Tierney again pressing and causing issues for the defenders, but United took the lead with a penalty in the 23rd minute after a trip by Rico Quitongo. Brad Smith dispatched the spot kick beyond Marshall and that was it for the first half.

Nobody could foresee what was to happen after the break, as the home team rattled in eight goals, including four in the final ten minutes, with Steven Boyd reducing the leeway after their fifth.

Matty Smith made it 2-0 after a corner in the 48th minute, Jordan Garden headed in from a cross in the 58th minute, Johnson set up Coote to fire home an angled drive for 4-0 in the 68th minute then Brad Smith from another corner made it 5-0 in 71st minute.

Good work and play from Tierney and Kelly lead to Steven Boyd netting in the 74th minute, but then United netted four in the 80-89th minutes. Murrell set up Aaron Duke from another cross in 80 minutes, Murrell then scored from Coote’s cross in the 85th, Cammy Ballantyne headed home a Coote corner in the 87th minute and Aaron Duke made it 9-1 in the 89th minute heading in another Coote cross.

An unfortunate note on which to end what has been an excellent season for our young team, who had secured the runners-up position in the league with 5 or 6 games to go. Overall it has been a great season, indeed couple of seasons, for the young team who themselves have had 10-0, 9-0, 8-1, several 7-1 and 6-1 scores against their opponents.

14 year old Taylor Wilson again played his part.

With Shaun Want out injured, and Ross Cunningham, it was Colin Granger, who will be leaving us at the end of the season, who skippered us in his final game for the club. Good Luck to Colin.

And special credit to full back Ben Reilly who played in every minute of every league game this season.

Accies – Marshall, Reilly, Quitongo (Wilson 56), C Granger (c), O’Halloran, Hughes, Smith (Henry 73), Ferguson, Tierney, S Boyd, Kelly. Unused sub McCracken. Referee Kyle Hall Att: 54
