Our development squad team had a comfortable 5-1 win over 3rd placed St Mirren at NDP on Tuesday night. St Mirren had three ex Accies in their 15 – Scott Agnew, Jaison McGrath and Jack Harrison. For us Grant Gillespie played as did Player / Manager Martin Canning.
We took the lead in the 5th minute when Ronan Hughes scored from 8 yards after a good passing move in and around the penalty area and a pass from Tierney. Steven Boyd came close before Eamonn Brophy doubled our lead in the 21st minute, shooting home from the right side after good work by Tierney again. Hughes and Brophy were causing all sorts of problems for the saints defence before Ryan Tierney made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute.
In the second half we increased our lead in the 71st minute when Ryan Tierney was hauled down in the penalty area and ref Chris Graham had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Grant Gillespie dispatched the spot kick beyond Reece Willison. In the 78th minute, not long after coming on as substitute, Conor Scullion volleyed home from 16 yards to make it 5-0.
The scoring wasn’t over though and Jaison McGrath headed home from six yards after a cross from the right in the 88th minute.
It was a comprehensive win and keeps us in 2nd place. We need 7 points from our remaining four games to confirm runners-up spot.
