Our u20 squad had a comprehensive 4-0 win away to Hearts in the Development League at Ochilview on Monday night (28th March). Missing were Scott Granger, suspended, and Alan Martin, Colin Granger and Ronan Hughes, injured, but returning from injury was Scott McMann, and back after suspension were Boyd and Want.
This was a good display, particularly in the second half, against Hearts’ youngsters, with a fairly relentless 20 minute spell of attack by us in the middle of the second period.
The first half was quiet, with a few lulls in play, and neither side getting a real grip on the game. Lewis Ferguson picked up an early yellow card before Redmond set up Kelly but the ‘keeper gathered. Redmond and Quitongo then interchanged passes before Danny’s shot went across the face of goal. Boyd came close for us before ‘keeper Alex Marshall denied Roy at the other end. We opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Marc Kelly netted after gathering the ball in the right side of the area, turning the defender and shooting past Mason. At half time we brought on Danny O’Halloran for Scott McMann (who had played 30 minutes for his debut for Clyde on loan on Saturday, having had 8 weeks out injured). Hearts came close with a free kick before Cunningham and Kelly had chances for us.
We doubled our lead on the hour mark, with a peach of a free kick from Steven Boyd. The young attacker scored direct from 22 yards out. The lead became three just five minutes later when a perfectly placed Danny Redmond free kick was met this time by the head of Ross Cunningham who rose well to head home, another lovely goal. Redmond and Tierney then did well, setting up Scullion who curled a shot which shaved the post. In the 76th minute we went 4-0 up when good play by Lewis Smith set up Shaun Want who scored. Want became our second caution soon after. And to complete a good night, another clean sheet for young Alex Marshall
