Our Development squad team lost an amazing game 4-3 at Perth on Tuesday night. We were deservedly 2-0 up within half an hour, dominating play and possession, but an amazing five minute spell either side of half time saw Saints net four times before Danny Armstrong reduced the leeway late on.
We opened the scoring in the 6th minute when a great run into the box and cross from the right by Danny Armstrong deflected off a Saints defender and Christian Nade knocked it home from close range. Nade came close again in the 10th and 15th minutes, the latter after good play by Reilly. Martin saved a Saints header from Martiniuk before comeback man Danny Redmond, playing his first game of season, curled a shot wide.
We went 2-0 up on the half hour mark with a goal that was a repeat of the first. Good play by Armstrong again and his shot was deflected into the net by Nade. Redmond and Boyd came close for us before Saints pulled one back in the 42nd minute when Caddis fired in a low shot. Right on half time Martiniuk headed in the equaliser from a corner to make it 2-2.
24 seconds into the second half Saints broke upfield and Connor McLaren rifled in a shot to make it 3-2, and in the 47th minute an almost carbon copy saw the same player shoot beyond Martin to make it 4-2, to complete an incredible spell of goalscoring by the Perth side.
Nade, Jack Simpson and Steven Boyd all came close before we pulled one back with 11 minutes remaining when Danny Armstrong got a deserved goal with a powerful shot. Want and Armstrong both put in tackles to prevent Saints getting a 5th before Colin Granger amazingly headed agonisingly wide in the final minute for us.
