Brian Rice Ahead of Rangers

Head Coach Brian Rice believes week’s break from action was vital for his squad.

Accies Head Coach Brian Rice believes the break from action since our last match against Motherwell was just what his side needed as they prepare for a return to action.

Rice said: “We welcomed the break on Saturday before it was the same lads who were playing every week because of injuries and we played a lot of games.

It then gave us a chance to get some of the lads returning from injury back, we got them out and doing a bit of training which should hopefully speed up their recovery time because we have a busy couple of days after the Rangers game it’s Kilmarnock at home on Saturday so we need as many lads back as possible.”

Rice is hopeful to have a couple of the injured players back from the treatment table for tonight’s visit to Ibrox. The Accies head coach said: “I’m hoping to have one or two lads back for it, probably for the bench, so we are still down on numbers but hopefully now this is our injury worries beginning to ease.”

Another player who has returned to training this week is defender Jamie Hamilton following his trial at English Premiership side Brighton & Hove Albion and Rice believes this is an insight into a bright future for the Accies academy graduate.

He said: “I have a lot of close connections with Brighton, it’s a fantastic club, I know the people that are there. I know he [Jamie] was well well looked after and trained with the first team so that’s a brilliant experience for him and I think it gives him an insight into what could happen in the future. That has to be his goal.”

Speaking ahead of this evening’s visit to Ibrox Rice insists there is never an easy time to face Steven Gerrard’s side.

He said: “It’s a big test for us, like every game in this league, it doesn’t matter when you go to Ibrox it’s a massive test. However, we have to instil a belief from the players that we can do it, all the lads have to go out there with confidence in their ability and confidence in their teammates to have a chance of taking something.”
