Our media reporter Martin McConnell with Tuesday’s report…

Scottish Premiership

Hamilton Academical 1 Aberdeen 3

After good competitive performances against both halves of the Old Firm in recent weeks, we were unable to reproduce that type of form, taking a first half beating which saw us concede three times. David Moyo and Marios Ogkmpoe combined well for a late consolation goal. We remain one point above Hearts in eleventh with the big game ahead on Saturday.

A disappointed Guillaume Beuzelin said afterwards, “In the first half I thought that we were horrendous if you want to use a word. If we want to compete in this league against that calibre of team, we need to do the basics right. In the first half it was terrible and the manner in which we lost the three goals is disappointing from our point of view.”

“Sometimes when you do well against the Old Firm and you don’t get any points or through to the next round of the cup, maybe the standard drops. But we knew that before the game. They wanted it more than us and it’s very disappointing.”

On the Hearts match, “It’s massive. A team like Hearts are bigger than us. In the table, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow and see. This game is absolutely huge and we’ll have to prepare for a massive fight on Saturday.”

Hamilton made a total of six changes to the line up that faced Rangers in the Scottish Cup, with Collar, Davies, Winter, Dales, Smith and Hamilton making way for Hunt, Alston, Woods, Templeton, Martin and Ogkmpoe. The Dons made three changes with Logan, Campbell and Cosgrove out and Main, McGeouch and McLennan replacing them.

Although a scrappy opening from both sides, it was Aberdeen that dominated in the early stages. But Hamilton were first to threaten when a long ball down field was headed into the box by Marios Ogkmpoe. Templeton gathered and attempted to lob the on rushing Lewis but a difficult bounce forced the ball wide.

Aberdeen had been unable to threaten until going one up after quarter of an hour when Considine sent the ball down the left hand side and into the corner of the Hamilton box. Curtis Main ran onto it, took a touch and then lobbed over the head of Luke Southwood into the net.

Just  minutes later and the game seemed to slip away from Accies reach when Main received the ball from a throw in. Turning, he put the ball into the box where former Accie Lewis Ferguson took a touch to tee up Niall McGinn’s shot on goal for the Dons second.

Everyone knew that the points were already going Aberdeen’s way when from another throw in, Considine swung the ball onto the six yard line where Connor McLennan managed to send a glancing near post header in at the back post.

The second half was more competitive from a Hamilton perspective. David Moyo sent a strike wide and Marios Ogkmpoe had a header blocked.

Aberdeen had decent attempts from Niall McGinn and Lewis Ferguson both saved well by Luke Southwood and Kennedy’s shot from outside the penalty area was blocked.

Then seven minutes from time, some positivity for Hamilton fans when both strikers combined well to get one back. The ball was well won in the centre of the Aberdeen half and ran wide to Johnny Hunt. His ball forward found Moyo on the edge of the 18yard line, then onto Marios inside the box where he took a steadying touch before slotting past Joe Lewis.
