Accies fan James Mills and grandson McLaren love matchdays at Foys Stadium.
James is passionate about encouraging a ‘new generation’ of fans to get on-board and support their local team. His grandson McLaren, who’s only 1-year-old, has already been to a number of games this season and local man James feels the community of Hamilton should encourage the same.
“Hamilton’s a club that’s family-based and you come along to enjoy the football. The fans come here for one reason and one reason only and that’s the football being played on the day.
“I think it’s great that Accies are a local club and parents bring their children along for that reason. There’s a community spirit in the stadium and surrounding and that’s not something you get everywhere. It’s unique.”
When I spoke with James I got this real sense of pride when he brings his grandson along to games. I’m a believer that supporting your local team is perhaps an older tradition in this modern-day in age, however, it’s a tradition that needs to be brought back and James couldn’t agree any more.
“I’ve spoken to friends and other grandparents about how much I enjoy coming to the games and how well behaved the supporters are. There’s never any hassles with our own support and that makes it even better to bring kids along.
“Every time I take him back to his mum on a Saturday evening she’s always phoning me to tell me how excited McLaren is and that’s priceless knowing your grandchild enjoys coming along to watch the team I support myself is great.
“The work the club does for the community of South Lanarkshire is second to none and that’s one of the main reasons why me and my family have now chosen to support Hamilton Accies.”
James’s enthusiasm for bringing his grandson up supporting his local team should be commended and encouraged throughout our community.
