Andrew Winter Insists ‘I Will Be Ready When Accies Chance Comes’

Striker Andrew Winter believes he is ready for when he is given his chance in the Accies first-team after featuring on the bench in the last three games.

Winter said: “I am remaining patient and I know I will be ready when the opportunity comes up. I am happy to be part of the squad and I feel I am ready to make an impact. You have to believe you are ready, you have to have that confidence in your ability, if you’re not confident there is no point in being there.”

As we have reached the halfway stage of the season Winter took time to reflect on his impressive start to the season in the development and reserve sides. He said: “This season I have been doing well, I am eager to keep that going and hopefully if I keep up my momentum the chance will come sooner rather than later.”

Speaking ahead of the Scottish Cup clash against Edinburgh City Winter is not getting ahead of himself. He said: “My first focus is getting into the squad again on Saturday, I will keep on trying to impress in the final sessions and at the very least hold my place on the bench.”

The attacker praised the influence Academy Director George Cairns has had on his young career so far. He said: “The club always put their faith in you even at a younger age, I have been with George since I was 10-years-old and he and the club have always shown faith in me. For the club and George to have so much faith in me it gives me real confidence.”

Winter, whose dad Brian was a referee in Scotland’s top flight for many years spoke highly of his experiences with his dad had in giving him the hunger from a young age to make it as a professional footballer.

He said: “I have always been travelling to the grounds with him when I was younger and watching him referee. I always enjoyed going because I saw what it was like being a professional footballer up close so I did really enjoy their experiences”

Winter could be in line to make his Accies debut today as the pride of Lanarkshire take on Edinburgh City in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. Kick-off 3 pm.
