Dr Sadhan Mukherjee Obituary.

Dr Sadhan Mukherjee, who passed away peacefully at home in Lenzie age 92 last week, was very much an unsung hero at Accies over the past 40+ years.

Always listed in the match programme and list of club officials as ‘Honorary Orthopaedic Surgeon’, he was without doubt one of the country’s leading sports injury specialists, and, indeed, was a pioneer of the knee injury clinic at Monklands Hospital in the 1980s.

A hugely enthusiastic supporter of the club, frequently bringing son Robin with him, and grandchildren occasionally, he was always eagerly awaiting the fixture list each summer so he could plan his games at old Douglas Park, our various homeless venues, and, finally to NDP where he was still a regular attender until a few seasons ago. He knew his football, and got more than excited at many games!

Back in the pre NHS Trust days, when Doctors could see patients for emergency operations, many an Accies player were always amazed how quickly they were seen after a Saturday match injury, and Dr Mukherjee had them treated, or operated on, mighty quickly.

Working alongside the late club Doctor, Sandy Wilson, they were a great team at assessing the Accies players over many years.

Such was Dr Mukherjee’s length of service to the club, and number of players that he saw, treated and operated on, it would be reaosnable to assume that he probably saved the club a susbstantial sum over the years in lengthy medical treatments.

As well as his exceptional medical skills, specialist sports injury knowledge, he will be remembered as a great family man and a hugely enthusiastic football supporter. He would moan and groan, cheer and celebrate, as much as the rest of us.

The club’s thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
