Accies head coach John Rankin admitted aspects of last night’s game “wasn’t pretty” but said he was pleased to see the lads dig deep and get the result.
Kevin O’Hara scored from the spot in the 21st minute after being felled in the box in the only goal of the game.
The result sees Accies go top of the Viaplay Cup Group C with two wins from two – and a trip to Livingston, who have only played one League Cup fixture to date, ahead on Saturday.
Rankin said: “We were pleased with the first-half performance, I thought all 11 players played a really good part. The second half wasn’t pretty to be honest and fell a bit flat, but we got the result and the lads are happy to get another three points on the board.
“I was pleased for Kev to get on the scoresheet. That’s him off and running. We see him in training and know what he can do so it’s good that he got that first competitive goal. He’s really important to what we’re trying to do here.
“We’ve taken six points in the first two games so we’re really pleased with that going to Livingston on Saturday and of course playing a good Premiership team.
“Livingston will be favourites admittedly, but it’s a game we’re very much looking forward to and a real test, but I’m always confident we can win.”
