Post match from Saturday at Firhill

After Saturday’s narrow defeat at Partick Thistle, Greg Docherty and Rakish Bingham took the time to talk to web reporter Mark Gillespie.

Greg Docherty: We’re really disappointed and frustrated. We started really well and then for some reason we backed off a bit. I think we lowered our standards and conceded a poor goal. In the second half I think it was all us, and waves of attack. We were finding space and Thistle were getting deeper.  But ultimately, we didn’t take our chances.

Temps was unlucky to hit the bar and then Cerny’s made a good save. Ali was just inches away from following up the rebound. Maybe if Ali’s been right up to 100 per cent he’d have got on the end of it, but it’s great to have him back. I’m sure he’s going to have a positive impact for us in the next two games. We’ve just got to focus on our jobs now for next week.

How is the squad feeling now going into the break? Important to finish on a high?

GD: We knew in these four games we had to pick up points. 12 points becomes 9 points now. Our aim is to get maximum points. There’s no reason why we can’t go and beat both Kilmarnock and Motherwell. They’re two teams in a similar situation to ourselves.

Killie are now in the spotlight after their recent run and win today. Do you think that benefits Accies?

GD: I don’t know if they’re expected to win or not. If we go about our business properly there’s no reason why we can’t go and beat them. We fought back against them in the last game earlier in the season and showed what we can do. These are two big games now and we can go and enjoy a well-earned break.

Rakish Bingham: There wasn’t a lot in it today I thought. We started slowly but in the second half I I thought we passed the ball better and looked the better team. But we left it too late and we’ll just have to dust ourselves off and go again.

It was disappointing to lose to a set piece. We weren’t picking up at the thistle corner and the lad’s done us at the far post. But I still thought in the second half we’d create something. We were piling on the pressure but probably left it too late. We just need to regroup and now because the games are coming thick and fast.

We’re down in the dogfight again this season. Reminders from last season?

RB: I’d like to think we’ve come a bit since last year. Today is obviously disappointing but we’ve got belief that we’re not going to be in this position again come the end of the season. We’ve performed well and already had a good run this season. We can’t t be too harsh on ourselves after today.

The manager has said it’s the strongest squad he’s had to date. Are you relishing the competition for places?

RB: Yes, it’s a healthy competition. I’m hungry to play all the time. I’ll wait for my chance and respect the manager’s decisions and always do my best when called upon. I enjoy it here and this is a place where I hope to develop.

Wednesday’s huge again?

We’re at home and we believe in our abilities. They’re on a decent run we know we can go and get something. We won’t be over doing it on Christmas day as we’re straight back in to prepare. These are big games coming up and we want to get all the points we can out of them.
