Ryan Fulton post match Saturday

Ryan Fulton Interview, with Mark Gillespie
Obviously, a disappointing result but glad to get the chance?
“Yes, it wasn’t a great result but like you say, it was massive to get out there and given a
chance to get back in the team.”
Five defeats in a row now, it isn’t looking to clever.
“It wasn’t the result that we wanted but we’ll need to kick on now and go up to Ross County
and pick up three points. Then there’s some huge games coming up for us and we need to
pick up as many points as we can.”
Did your experience with the U21s help when it came to today?
“Yes, it did, but you can train as much as you want but it’s different when you get out on the
pitch and play in an actual game. So, it was great to be out with the 21s and it did give me a
bit more confidence when it came to today’s game. You can train as much as you want but
it’s the through balls and things like that and match pace which make all the difference.”
There wasn’t much chance with the goal was there?
“No, we need to stop the mistakes that lead to the goals first and that’s the main job.”
It just seemed that you were dealing with set pieces and Motherwell were causing you
lots of trouble and winning lots of headers.
“Aye, they’re a big side and we didn’t help ourselves in giving silly free kicks and corners
away when we didn’t need too. Obviously, we need to deal with whatever is put in front of us,
set piece, through ball or whatever it is and we need to deal with it.”
Gary is out quite long term, is that right or have you been told how long your likely to
be in for?
“I don’t think Gary is too sure at the minute. Obviously, he is fighting to get back as quick as
he can, I’d be doing the same. As soon as he comes back I’ll be trying to keep my place and
Darren Jamieson is the same in trying to get in the team. I think that’s what we need, the
three of us with a chance, with everyone kept on their toes and keep going.”
You were at Liverpool, is this now the real stuff with the career you’re going to have?
“Yes, I’m getting so much experience and all the teams are so different each time you play.
Today, Motherwell weren’t a passing side but what they do works for them.”
Was that the worst aerial bombardment you’ve faced with some big lads up against
“Yes, they’re a big side but it can only help me.”
Danny Ward came up from Liverpool a couple of years ago and did really well, did you
speak to him?
“I still stay in touch with Danny, he said it was great up here and last season he did well with
Huddersfield. So, fingers crossed for him that he gets a chance which he has now and then
but needs more of a chance to prove himself. He needs to play as many games as he can
and it will help his career massively.”
