Greg Docherty post match Saturday

Greg Docherty Interview after Saturday’s defeat by Motherwell

What are your thoughts on todays game?

“I’m hugely disappointed. Aye, it’s three games in the last five that we’ve gone ahead and not taken a point from a game. That can’t happen. It’s really disheartening as players, but we’re the ones in charge of our own destiny and have been letting ourselves down, letting the fans and the club down. We were told to go and play with a freedom and express ourselves, that’s what you want. Maybe we’ll have to start playing ugly, I don’t know but we’re going to have to stick together. There’s three games in a week next week and I wish it was tomorrow to be honest with you. I hate this waiting about for a week now and it’s tough to take. Next week is massive for us and we need to take points, there’s no doubt about that. Five games and no points isn’t good enough for this league. We’ve let ourselves down and are back at square one again after starting so well. There’s a few teams in a similar position to us and it’s going to be a dog fight already in the middle of October. We’re already talking about who is going to be cut adrift and we don’t want to be that team, so, Ross County is huge next week. I’m sure we’ll prepare well and the staff do prepare us well, it’s down to us as players, so we can’t blame the staff. It’s really disheartening but we’ll go again next week.”

Apart from the Celtic match, the games you’ve lost have all been pretty close and you’ve not been well beaten, so these three games are all winnable for Accies.

“Yes exactly, that’s the thing. We’ve not been well beaten but we’re losing ugly games and we need to turn that around and be the team that can nick something from that, withstand the pressure when it comes and take our chances. We’re not taking the chances and losing sloppy goals. Collectively as a team, we’re making mistakes and it can’t happen. There is a really disheartened dressing room back there, so I’m desperate for next week to come around quickly.”

The opening goal was a classic Ioannis Skondras strike from just inside the box.

“Yes, he’s no nonsense and he’ll put his foot through it. Again, we’re up there in those areas and we know that we can score if we can withstand the pressure. We’ve just got try and not give away these sloppy goals and give ourselves the very best chance that we can. But again, it’s a great goal but counts for nothing and personally it’s really gutting for me.”

Two Accies penalty shouts in the game, one for you and one for Botti. Was it a penalty?

“The referee said to me that it was a great tackle but it was actually me that put the ball out, I thought it was a penalty but it was me that kicked it out for a goal kick. From his angle he thought that the defender got there and put it out. Maybe the angle played a part, I don’t know, and maybe if it had been a bit earlier on we could have gotten something from that. It’s frustrating as I felt that it was definitely a penalty, it’s all small margins and sometimes you get the decision and sometimes you don’t. You can’t rely on these things going your way, we’ve got to go out and create our own chances.”

Rojano made his debut for the club, he wasn’t on for very long and managed to make an immediate impact and looked as if he’ll put a shift in.

“Yes, I’ve obviously seen him in training and know what he can do. He puts himself about and works hard and I think he’ll be a good asset for the club. He’ll put himself into dangerous areas, and if we can get the ball into the box I’m sure he’ll score
