MARTIN CANNING

Martin has confirmed that he has not registered himself as a player for this season and, accordingly, is now just ‘Manager’ and no longer ‘Player/Manager’.

Martin didn’t actually play any first team games last season, but did feature in a couple of u20s games. The progression of the young players in the u20s means he feels he would be stopping a young boy getting a game if he was still ticking over in the u20s, and he hasn’t been training regularly enough to consider himself for a first team place!

His last first team appearance was 13 Feb 2016, when he brought himself on as a last minute substitute in a 0-0 home draw against Dundee Utd. It turns out that that was his 400th overall league appearance.

His debut came as a 17 year old for Ross County, 18 years ago this week, in a 3-0 League Cup win v Morton on 24 August 1999 at Dingwall.  From Ross County he had a spell on loan at Beith Juniors and Peterhead, and went on to play for Gretna and Hibernian before coming to Accies in September 2008, taking over from Alex Neil as Manager in January 2015.

All in, after a total of 247 appearances for ourselves, he has career totals of 456 games with 20 goals across all his senior clubs.
