Four of our young u20s squad have gone on a development loan to Bo’ness Utd, of the East Region Junior Superleague, until the end of December.
Defender Jamie Boyd, 17, striker Marc Kelly, 19, goalkeeper Alex Marshall, 19, and defender Rico Quitongo, 18, have all moved on a new development loan to the Newtown Park club.
In the past it was always possible and common to ‘farm out’ young players to junior clubs, but that option hasn’t been available to sides in the top two divisions for several seasons now. Former Secretary Scott Struthers had recommended the change to the authorities last year, as some clubs still sought to do it, and the new rule allowing it was passed by the relevant bodies in the summer.
It allows the players to get valuable additional game time, playing in the East junior league on a Saturday, but are still fully eligible for our u20 development league in midweek, as well as u20 cup fixtures.
Manager Martin Canning said, “These lads have all recently signed extended deals with the club anyway and this will greatly help their development in the u20 league as well. It will give them good experience of competitive adult football in a decent environment at a club we know well.”
The club will regularly monitor their progress, and they will continue to train with us on a daily basis as normal. Bo’ness are managed by former Accies u20 coach Allan McGonigal.
