One of our longest serving players, despite being only 22, Craig Watson, has moved on from the club.
Craig came to us as a 10 year old back in 2005 and signed in the u11s in August 2006. He is one of just eight players to have played for us at every age level from u11s all the way through to the first team. He made his debut in the first team as a 17 year old at Ross County in April 2012 and went on to make 14 first team appearances, including four times in the season just finished. Craig also had a spell on loan at Arbroath where he scored twice in 23 games in 2015-16.
Popularly known around the club to everyone as ‘The Janny’ as he was an ever present in the dressing room and was always there working away, particularly in battling back from two lengthy spells out through injury. A versatile player who preferred a defensive role, he is at an age where he desperately needs games and Martin Canning commented, ” Janny has been a terrific figure around the club but he is at an age and stage in his career where he needs games to kick on and get a good career for himself. He has been a great squad member here, a hard working and very popular player, but with another season in the Premiership for us Craig needs to move on and get regular football, and he fully understands and accepts that.”
Janny is someone that will always be welcome here at NDP, he is very much ‘an Accie’, and he departs with our sincere thanks and our very best wishes for the future.
Also moving on is goalkeeper Remi Matthews. Remi, 23, came to us from Norwich City last summer and played 27 times in a season which saw him miss three months with a shoulder injury. He kept eight clean sheets this season, including finishing the season with three successive clean sheets. Remi returns to Norwich, and also gets married next week, so we thank him very much for his time with us, another popular lad in the dressing room, and we send our very best wishes for his marriage next week and future career.
