Devlin & Imrie Post match 28 Feb

Web reporter Mark Gillespie caught up with Michael Devlin and Dougie Imrie after Tuesday’s win over Aberdeen…

Man of the match Mikey Devlin put on a captain’s performance, scoring the only goal and proving to be a rock at the back as Accies withstood waves of Aberdeen pressure. He reflects on a massive win which lifts us off the foot of the table:

“It was a huge effort. That’s what we are as a club. We fight for everything. Aberdeen put a lot of balls in and we defended our box well. They had a goal chopped off for offside which I’ve not seen back, but we managed to hold out for the result.”

“It’s nice to get praise from both managers tonight but the main issue was that we got the result. It was a perfect time to get my first goal of the season. My dad has been giving me stick for not scoring enough goals so it was good to get us off to a good start. We dug in for long spells and had just enough to see it out.”

Dougie Imrie hopes it’s a result Accies can now build on:

“It was a great win for us tonight. We knew what we had to do and hopefully that kicks us on now. We’ve beaten Aberdeen before here and knew if we applied ourselves the chances would come for us to get the three points. “

“Everyone to a man put in a big team effort. We know Aberdeen are a good team, that’s why they’re second. But it was about us tonight, we knew what was at stake and we got the result I think our efforts deserved.”

“We’ll think about the Rangers game tomorrow but we’ve got to look to our next league game now. We’ve taken points off Hearts in the league already this season and we can do it again. We’ve got to build on this now.”

But it promises to be a great occasion at Ibrox on Saturday and Devlin hopes to give the Accies faithful a day to remember in the Scottish Cup:

“The league is all important but they don’t get much bigger than a quarter final against Rangers at Ibrox, with an opportunity to progress to Hampden for a Cup Semi. We won’t take anything for granted but it’s a massive opportunity for us. It’s not something we’ve been able to give the fans a good cup run for a while, since I’ve been here, so we’ll be approaching it positively and will be ready for another big effort on Saturday.”
