John Rankin appointed new Head Coach

Hamilton Academical FC are delighted to confirm John Rankin as our new Head Coach.

John, who was first team coach at the club since last December, turned 39 yesterday, and his appointment is the first decision of the football Board, to which David MacKinnon has rejoined as Director of Football.

Chairman Allan Maitland said: “We are delighted to confirm John. As a person he possesses all the qualities which were looking for to take the club forward.

“From his day to day working on the training pitch you can see he has a real desire for developing young players and passing his knowledge and understanding of the game on to others.”

John started his career as a player in the youth academy at Manchester United, and had a spell in Brazil, before a 600+ appearance career in Scotland with Ross County, Hibernian, Inverness CT, Dundee Utd, Falkirk, Queen of the South and Clyde. He was U18 coach at Hearts before joining us last winter.

John said: “I am privileged to sit here as the club’s new Head Coach. Speaking with Allan and the Board I believe that our vision for this football club is very much aligned.

“The fitness levels of the squad are very high but we want to keep improving between now and the Dundee game (9th July) and I am looking forward to getting the new season underway.”
