Defender Daniel O’Reilly has highlighted the importance of a full pre-season as he and his Accies teammates look to maximise their success in the coming season.
The 27-year-old joined Accies during the January transfer window and after a fast paced beginning he is already targeting a strong return from the close season.
He said: “I am looking forward to next season already, I came in during the season and that can be difficult but from pre-season we are starting fresh. From that first day you can set out your objectives collectively and individually to make as much of an impact as you can moving forward.”
The draw for the Premier Sports Cup was made earlier today and with that in mind O’Reilly believes the current break will serve the squad well as they look ahead to their return.
He said: “I came here off the back of a full season in Ireland, and it has been a long 18 months. I have been playing in that time and I am very happy for that but I am enjoying the break.
“I have learned a lot since coming here and I think I have improved from it but I am looking forward to next season already. I think the benefits of pre-season in terms of fitness are clear but to build as a squad will be beneficial.
“I think it is important to get a good start. There is a lot of time between now and that first game and a lot of work still to be done but we want to show the fans what we have been working on beforehand and make a difference.”
Despite the current close season schedule O’Reilly revealed the squad are working hard to be ready as pre-season comes around.
He said: “We’ve got our programmes for the close season to work through to make sure we are all ready for that first day of pre-season.”
