We were delighted to welcome the grandson of club legend Bobby Reid to New Douglas Park earlier today.
Bobby played for Accies in the top division during our glory years of the 1930s and moved on to Brentford – then, as now, in England’s top division. In his first spell with us he made 62 appearances and scored 19 goals. It was during this time he became a supporters’ favourite for his sparkling performances in the outside-left position.
After a spell south of the border with both Brentford and Sheffield United he returned to Accies as a player for a short loan spell in 1939.
Bobby again returned in the 1970s as trainer / physiotherapist and served the club again with distinction until sadly passing away in November 1987, having been giving treatment to players earlier that day.
Having played a part in the side who reached the Scottish Cup final in 1935 we were pleased to welcome a relation of Mr Reid (pictured) and we remember his contributions to the club fondly.
