Defender Mihai Popescu has revealed the squad are aiming to end the season on a high as we travel to Inverness on Friday night for the final game of our cinch Championship season.
Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “I know that there will be a lot of fans travelling up on Friday and it would be great to get a result for them like we did last time.”
The 28-year-old believes the squad can draw confidence from the previous trip to Inverness.
He said: “I think in that game we did well, and we were able to get the winner for the fans who had made the journey. We have put in some good performances against Inverness this season but we know we will have to be at our best to take all three points.”
Our last match saw Sam Nicolson make his Accies debut with academy prospects Cian Newbury, Chrissy McGinn and Adam McGowan on the bench. Popescu believes these younger players will grab their opportunity with both hands.
He said: “It is a good opportunity for the young players to come into the first team environment and keep themselves there. They are young and have that hunger that matches and a few of them have joined in training and done really well.
The experienced defender also revealed his desire to help these younger players improve.
He said: “I have told them that when they get their chance, they have to do their best in order to feature regularly in the first team.
“I was encouraging them during training. I know how it feels to be a young player coming to train with the first team.”
As his loan spell comes to an end the Romanian paid tribute to the club for their backing throughout the season.
He said: “I have been playing regularly this season and that has been great, the manager has given me plenty of opportunities and I am really grateful for that.
“Since the turn of the year we have put in some really good performances and our style of football has been really good.”
