Match Preview: Partick Thistle (A)

By David Robson

It’s an away match for Stuart Taylor and his side this weekend as we travel to Firhill to face Partick Thistle for Saturday’s cinch Championship tie. Kick-off 3:00PM.

Ahead of the game Stuart Taylor has revealed there are no new injury concerns for the side but admits Miko Virtanen and Marley Redfern are still doubts going in to the match.

He said: “There’s no additional injuries from Saturday’s game so everybody has come through that with no issues.

“We still have Miko out, he had another part of his injection on his achilles yesterday (Tuesday), so he’ll be out for 48 hours, and we’ll pick him back up after that and get him on his rehab programme.

“Marley is still recovering from his hamstring injury and we will assess him. Scotty Martin returned to training today (Wednesday) from his hamstring issue against Kilmarnock as well.”

Last time out against Partick Thistle was a thrilling 2-2 draw at New Douglas Park. Goals from Andy Ryan and Mihai Popescu were enough to secure a point that day.

Stuart Taylor has revealed that Accies are working on transforming their draws into wins ahead of the final stretch of the season.

He said: “We need to be more ruthless at both ends of the pitch and without a doubt we would have turned more draws into victories.

“People would then say that they are games that we would have lost earlier on in the season and to be honest, at least we are getting a point out of these games and I can obviously see both sides of it.

“I would rather be more positive though and say that there are games we could have been picking up three points out of, so we need to take the belief and confidence from that as we are creating good chances but it’s just fine margins about being more ruthless and putting games to bed.”

Speaking ahead of the final few games of the season, Taylor said: “We want to win as many games as we can. We are looking to go and deal with the final few fixtures mentally and be as strong as we can. We just need to keep trying to progress and finish the season as high up as we possibly can.”
