Dunfermline 1-0 Hamilton Accies

Accies fell to a narrow defeat at East End Park as Dunfermline Athletic closed the gap in the cinch Championship.

Ryan Dow’s bundled effort was enough to win it for John Hughes’ side, despite persistent second-half pressure from Accies.

The visitors remain sixth in the table, with the Pars still stuck at the bottom – albeit on goal difference.

Stuart Taylor’s men now have a weekend off before facing Ayr United at home on 29th January.

The gaffer made two changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Partick Thistle last weekend, with Marley Redfern missing out through injury and Brian Easton dropping to the bench.

Ronan Hughes and Reegan Mimnaugh were restored to the side in a three-man midfield, alongside Miko Virtanen.

Accies’ best chance of the first half came after only a few minutes when the ball dropped to Mihai Popescu at the back-post, but the defender could only hit a soft shot straight at the keeper.

The rest of the half was dominated by the hosts but they struggled to create many chances that truly tested Joe Hilton.

It looked like the on-loan Blackburn man would deny them once again after he stopped a point blank header from Lewis McCann – but Ryan Dow followed up closely to prod home.

Accies would create far more after the break, although Matthew Shiels saved them on the hour mark – blocking and then clearing a close range effort off the line.

The left-back then almost restored parity after good link up play saw him fire an effort at goal – but it too, was blocked on the line.

Unfortunately it was to be his last action of the game, as he picked up an injury in the process.

As changes were made the game became scrappier and Accies struggled to create too many chances of merit, although the introduction of January signing Kai Kennedy did lift the spirits of the away side.

Ultimately though, they could not find an equaliser – falling to defeat for only the second time in six matches.
