Accies defender Mihai Popescu was delighted to score his first goal for the club after netting the equaliser in our 2-2 draw with Partick Thistle at New Douglas Park on Saturday.
The loan star scored the second goal of the match to claw back a draw and believes the side were unlucky not to grab the three points from the tight clash.
He said: “I am very happy to score my first goal here. I have had a lot of chances and it was a good time to score and help the team get a point today.
“We shown that we have a good mentality now – even when we lose a goal. We still go forward and try to get back into the game like we did today for two goals. Just unfortunately after all the chances we couldn’t get the winning goal.
“It was a really good game and probably a draw is the fair result. We both had good chances and were trying to win the game. The last five minutes they came after us but we defended well , I am happy we got the point in the end and hope we can go out and win the next game.”
It was Daniel O’Reilly’s second appearance in an Accies shirt as he continues his unbeaten streak. Popescu has been impressed with the 26-year-old’s performances so far.
He said: “He’s a good guy and he’s a good player for us – especially the last two games when he came in. The gaffer changed the system but we have to adapt to everything even when you’re switching between three and four at the back. Today we did that well I thought.”
The result leaves us in sixth and looking to close the cap on the top five. However, Popescu revealed the Accies squad refuse to have their attention drawn to the results of other teams.
He said: “We have to stay focused on our own game. Every game we’re looking to get the victory. Next week we have a difficult game against Dunfermline.
“Going there we know we have to impose our game on the opposition and hopefully we can come back with the three points.”
