Taylor delighted with Martin return

By David Robson

Head Coach Stuart Taylor has admitted he was delighted to see the long-awaited return of midfielder Scott Martin in recent weeks.

Taylor believes his traits will have a positive effect on the squad.

He said: “He has been on a very long recovery programme and he’s done very well in terms of the training he has been on.

“On Saturday we were only looking at giving him 15 or 20 minutes but he came on at half-time and he did very well which was really good but most importantly, he didn’t have any adverse effects to his injury so he’s getting stronger every day.

“He’s the type of player who will run through a brick wall and will not let anyone in the way of what he wants to achieve.

“He has those attributes of being a winner so for me that’s excellent because it can be contagious and rub off on other people. He’s a real bundle of energy and that’s not just on the pitch but it’s in the dressing room and around the club.”

Taylor believes the signing of Lewis Smith on a contract extension is another positive influence on his Accies side.

He said: “Getting his contract was really important to us. I feel that he fits perfectly with how we want to go and play. He’s forward thinking, he’s creative and he can score goals.

“He’s exactly what we are looking for in that area of the pitch but also on top of that, he is one of the supporters. He is a Hamilton supporter so again it’s all these added bonuses that we want at this football club.”

The Accies Head Coach is expecting a strong reaction from his side after the defeat to Raith Rovers.

He said: “The way the lads have come back into training this week has been great. I’m now looking forward to Saturday’s game and I’m looking for a reaction from them.”

We keep speaking about it, it’s a learning curve that we are on and we will get better. This is what happens when you try and build something but we’ll get there and with the group of players that we have. We’re building a culture and it’s important we stay positive with it and the good will come.

“It’s all about the bounce back ability; how you respond, and what reaction we give. It’s what happened after the last game against Thistle when we asked for the reaction, and we got it, so we hope to see the same this weekend.”
