Full-back Chris McGinn has revealed Head Coach Stuart Taylor has helped him to analyse his performance after making his debut for the Scotland U17 side.
The defender returned to training this week and was pleased to impress the club’s coaches.
He said: “I spoke to the coaches when I came back and they were delighted for me. The gaffer offered to take me in to analyse my game. He helped me see where I could have done better and highlighted where I did well.
“He congratulated me and thought I had done well in the game. That was great for me, I am ready to put what he said into practice.”
It was an international debut for McGinn at the level and he is delighted to have the experience behind him.
He said: “It is a dream come true to represent your country at that level. I was able to get an assist as well, so it was a brilliant day.
“My family were at the game too which made it special, I know they were very proud of me so that is brilliant experience for me.”
The 16-year-old was unsure on what role he would play as he prepared for the matches. However, believes this helped him to focus on the game rather than the occasion.
He said: “I wasn’t sure if I was going to get playing when I found out I was called up to the squad. The coaches here were fantastic. George (Cairns) reminded me it was how I was playing that got me there, so when I went there, I knew I just needed to keep doing what I was good at.
“The first time I heard I was playing was when the gaffer read the team sheet out. I think that helped, I had no time to consider what it meant, I was out doing the warmup, getting my head down and focusing on the game.”
The call-up to the squad came shortly after McGinn made his Accies debut, in a Premier Sports Cup group stage match against Albion Rovers earlier this season.
McGinn is desperate to keep the momentum going as he targets further appearances for Accies.
He said: “I have been at the club for a big part of my life and to finally get that first appearance was a brilliant feeling. It was what you worked towards for years and now it’s all about making as many appearances as I can here to experience that feeling again.
