Head Coach Brian Rice has revealed both he and his players are looking forward to getting back to playing in front of the Accies fans this week in our match against Ayr United.
The match marks the halfway point of our Premier Sports Cup group stage campaign and Rice is looking for his side to continue in their winning ways.
He said: “It will be a tough test against Ayr, they are a big strong team, but it’s our first home match of the season and we have some fans in so that is something which we are really looking forward to.
“We know that Ayr will be a tough test, every game is a challenge but we want to pick up another three points and put on a show for the fans.”
Saturday’s match against Falkirk saw midfielder Lewis Spence make his Accies debut and Rice is delighted with his battling contributions.
He said: “I thought Lewis fitted in perfectly, I think we got exactly what we expected from him. As a player he is very similar to Scott Martin, he isn’t afraid to put a foot in and gets himself up and down the pitch.
“We know any time he pulls on the jersey he will give it everything he has got and that is exactly the type of player that fits in well here.”
The Accies boss also revealed goalkeeper Ryan Fulton could be set for an earlier than expected return to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
He said: “Ryan has come back a bit quicker than we thought, he is still a couple of weeks away but we are delighted to get him back doing some work on the pitch.”
With 14 of our squad from Saturday’s match coming through the Accies academy Rice believes now is the time for the club to give the less experienced players in the squad a chance.
He said: “That is what Hamilton is all about, some of them are in there because of opportunities which have come up and that’s great for them. I have been impressed with the young lads who have come up and joined us this year.
“Some of these lads will get a chance to play and being here they have the opportunity to impress. As a club, we always look at what we have in our academy before bringing someone in and this year is no different.”
A limited number of tickets are still available for the match and can be purchased here. Priced at £12 for adults and £6 concessions. Kick-off 7:45 pm.
