Lewis Smith has revealed that he and his Accies team mates are desperate to show the fans they can progress further in this season’s Premier Sports League Cup campaign.
The fans’ favourite showed everyone what they’ve been missing when he made his third start in eight months with last Friday’s victory over Edinburgh City.
Speaking ahead of our match with Falkirk, the 21-year-old said: “I think the boys are desperate to do something in a cup competition.
“I know previously we’ve not done what we said we would at the start of the campaign, but this year we just really want to set it straight and get through to the next round, if not further.
“You see what some other teams can do and I honestly feel that it’s time Hamilton are due something good.”
Smith believes the squad are good enough to state their claim this season and hopes Saturday’s fixture against Falkirk provides another victory.
He said: “The players that have been brought in this season have already settled well into our environment and everyone knows how important this season is for the club.
“There’s plenty of healthy competition for places, that makes me even more determined to work harder every single day to secure my place in the team.”
For Smith, last season was ravished by injury and he’s hoping to draw a line under that with a run of games under his belt.
He said: “Last year was a frustrating season for me, I need to use that now as motivation to keep moving forward and help the team in the best way I can.
“We’re so lucky here to have a fantastic group of backroom staff to help and support you when you’re on the sidelines.
“They’re the ones that have got me back fit and rearing to go, so I’m just hoping to get a run of games now and hopefully the time and dedication they’ve put into my recovery is paid back with results on the pitch.”
