Spence signs for Accies

Hamilton Academical FC is pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Scunthorpe United for the transfer of Scottish midfielder Lewis Spence.

The 25-year-old signed his two-year contract earlier today and spoke exclusively to the club’s website.

He said: “I am extremely happy to get the deal done, when I heard about the interest, I was keen to get back up to Scotland and this club brings a great opportunity for me.

“The gaffer has been brilliant, I have had a couple of conversations with him, I’m probably one of the more experienced lads coming in and he has made it clear what he expects of me.”

The former Dundee and Ross County, who has a Scottish Championship league winners medal to his name, made 41 appearances last season scoring one goal from midfield.

Head Coach Brian Rice shared his delight to have secured his long-term target.

He said: “I am glad we have been able to get Lewis in, he is a player I have liked for a long time, I tried to get him here last season but we weren’t able to get it done.

“He comes here after making over 40 appearances for Scunthorpe last season and I think he has improved as a player over the last 12 months.

“I was looking to add a bit of experience to the squad and I don’t think there is anyone better than someone who knows what it takes to win this league.”

Spence is available for selection and could make his Accies debut in the second match of our Premier Sports Cup group stage against Falkirk on Saturday, the match kicks off at 3 pm.
