Stirling looking to ‘cement’ place in team

By Marcus Nash – July 1st 2021

Accies defender Ben Stirling is hoping to seal his place in Brian Rice’s starting lineup for the upcoming season that lies ahead.

Stirling, who joined from Edinburgh side Hibernian in September 2020 has made over 20 appearances so far in all competitions for the club, however, this season he’s hoping to be one of the first names on the team sheet as the season is under three weeks away.

Stirling said he’s had a positive pre-season and can’t wait to play competitive football again after last seasons disappointment.

“Pre-season has been good for me, obviously the first week is always the toughest but now the games are going to come thick and fast and it’s about being mentally and physically ready from the start.

“It was seriously disappointing last season getting relegated but we’re desperate to bounce back with successful performances in the league cup first and foremost and carry that into the league.”

Ben is still grateful the club gave him the opportunity last season to play regular first-team football, however, now his eyes are on a starting place in Rice’s XI.

“I was delighted to get the opportunity to play for Hamilton last year, this year I want to try and cement a place in the starting lineup and that comes down to me.”

“I need to put in the hard work in training and hopefully impress the gaffer.”

Accies kick off their season in just over a week and Stirling knows how much of a challenge Edinburgh City will bring.

“I’ve played City a couple of times, I know their manager pretty well and know he has them playing challenging football so it will be a tough test for us.”
