New signing Andy Ryan believes his previous spell with the club will help him to meet the high expectations that comes with playing for Accies.
Speaking exclusively to the club’s website, he said: “Coming back here I know the club well, not only the club but also the expectation that comes with playing for the side from the supporters.
“Everything around the place feels familiar, I have already seen a couple of familiar faces and walking around I think it has and will help me relax into the move.”
Perhaps the most famous moment of his first spell with Accies came as the club secured promotion to the Premiership with a penalty shoot-out win against Hibernian and Ryan is determined for similar success in his second spell.
He said: “I think joining a side that has suffered the disappointment of being relegated you see everyone has the determination to set that right. From the conversations that I’ve have had with the coaches and some of the lads there is a motivation to show the quality in the squad.
“Now as I prepare for my second spell here, I am more experienced, and I realise that the best thing for me is to be playing games and scoring goals but to do that you have to earn the right to play and that starts from the first training session with the lads.”
The 26-year-old joins us on the back of a strong season with Stirling Albion where he netted 10 goals in 17 appearances and was included in the SPFL League Two Team of the Season, and he is looking to build on this campaign.
He said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Stirling, I was playing and scoring regularly, and I have learned that is what football is all about, and coming here I have challenged myself to keep getting games and scoring goals.”
With competitive action just around the corner, Ryan is desperate to get started. He said: “I am looking forward to getting up and running in the cup, there are less than two weeks to the first game and to have a chance to play I need to get my head down and work hard to get myself prepared for the season.”
Ryan becomes our second summer signing and joins Kieran MacDonald and Matthew Shiels in the squad for next season.
