Midfielder Marley Redfern has revealed his aims for a season which he has described as “important” in his development as a footballer.
The 19-year-old said: “It was a good break, the time allowed us to rest and refocus ahead of this season. Coming back for this campaign it is all about kicking on and training as hard as I can.
“I think by doing this it enables me to make sure by the time the games start I am ready to take whatever opportunities come my way.”
Redfern became the latest Accies academy graduate in our last match against Kilmarnock and he discussed how the opportunity came around.
He said: “I didn’t know I was going to get on in the game, I had been involved with squads in the past and George told me to make sure I kept working hard and the opportunity would come.
“I think I got about 30 minutes in the game, and I didn’t actually know I was going to get on until I was given the shout by the gaffer. I think this helped me because I didn’t have time to focus on anything else apart from the match.”
Redfern revealed his taste of first-team football has fuelled his motivation to do all he can for more opportunities this season.
He said: “I have already had some conversations with George, Beuzy and the gaffer and they have made it clear what they expect from me.
“Personally, what happened last season is in the past now, looking ahead I know this is an important season for me and I want to get more and more appearances, but I know to do that I need to give my all in every training session.”
The Academy graduate believes the pre-season training camp has benefited the squad as they prepare for our first competitive match of the season.
He said: “We came back for pre-season at the beginning of last week and it has been brilliant, we got a couple of days in Largs and that was good to get the sessions under our belts.
“Since coming back I think there has been a real intensity about the sessions, no one is dwelling on the past everyone is focused on preparing for a season that will be challenging in the championship.”
