Brian Rice insists his squad have quality to cope under any circumstances

Brian Rice has backed his squad to adjust after central defender Aaron Martin was ruled out injured for the match against Hibernian.

The experienced defender joined Accies in November and has played a massive part in the defensive solidity of the side in recent months. However, Rice believes there is enough quality in the squad to cope with the loss.

He said: “Aaron’s injury is at the bottom of his foot, he is away for a scan to double check it is nothing serious, but we are hopeful that it is just this match he will miss.

“He has been a major part of the team since he came in with the other two lads alongside him. His experience has definitely helped us but Hakeem went in there against St Mirren and did fantastically well. I have another couple of options too. It’s good to have options to choose from now.”

The news of Martin’s injury comes as academy graduate Shaun Want has returned from his lengthy spell on the sidelines and Rice is delighted to welcome him back to the match day squad.

He said: “Shaun Want is back in the squad. He has been training for the last couple of weeks with the first team and we are glad to have him back involved.

“I think the game tomorrow might be a bit too soon, he hasn’t played in the last couple of months so we need to take our time getting him back to full fitness.”

The Accies Head Coach praised midfielder Scott Martin for his performance against St Mirren as he steps up his return from injury.

He said: “Scott Martin got back on the pitch during the week and continued his recovery. I think in the second half he was one of, if not, the best player on the park in the second half.”

Rice insists, despite the sides recent upturn in form, it is important that the side remain focused on the next match.

He said: “Recently we have found a little bit of form. That counts for nothing now, as has always been the case, the next match is the most important.”

The match will be broadcasted live and exclusively via Hibs TV, priced at £15 the match is available here: https://ppv.hibernianfc.co.uk/login
