“We need to be ready to go again” – Rice

Accies head Coach Brian Rice insists the 4-1 derby win against Motherwell is history and his team must be ready to perform to the same level against St Mirren.

He said: “When you get a positive result the boys are lively. I have to make sure they are ready to go again now. Saturday is gone and the next game becomes the most important one.

“Myself and Beuzy we are in about the lads during training. I am tough on them because I want them to be grounded and respect everything they have as a professional. I want them to enjoy that and go out on a match day and give it everything they have.”

Accies are unbeaten in their last two matches and Rice believes the side are starting to see the benefit of their hard work.

He said: “The lads desire, hunger and effort have never been questioned. In the last two matches we have picked up four well deserved points.

“Everything is a battle for us here. When you mention Hamilton people know we will be up for the fight. That doesn’t just happen on match day, everyone here contributes to a healthy environment which sets us up for a matchday.”

Accies may be without Charlie Trafford for the visit to Paisley. However, Rice is hopeful this won’t be a long-term issue.

He said: “We have the same squad that we had available as we did on Saturday. Charlie Trafford we will assess, he came off on Saturday after he landed awkwardly on his back just as a precaution.

“Scott Martin came on when we were doing well. With no bounce games or friendlies it was a good opportunity to get him on and get his match sharpness up.”

Rice believes the opportunity to create a settled back three has given his side a platform to build upon in recent matches.

He said: “Boxing day was one of the first games these lads came together. Aaron Martin signed in October, Brian Easton was out injured and Jamie Hamilton had covid then had shin splints so I wasn’t able to get these lads playing together as much as I wanted at first.

“They have a strong record together. We have been able to keep a couple of clean sheets and get some points on the board as a result.”
