The club were saddened to learn of the death of former striker Johnny Divers, who died yesterday aged 87. In all competitions for Accies he scored 74 goals in just 117 appearances. He had also been with Thorniewood Utd and Clyde, and later worked at Celtic.

Johnny came to Hamilton in 1959 from Thorniewood Utd (who had got him from Ashfield Juveniles), scoring on his debut as a trialist in a 5-0 win over Forfar on 24th January 1959. In season 1959-60 he scored 26 goals in 36 league games, the following season he netted 22 goals from 35 league games. He left us for Clyde in 1962 but later returned to Accies on loan. Overall Hamilton appearances, all competitions – 117, with 74 goals
He spent much of his working life with British Rail and was also a matchday host at Celtic Park.
He spent the last couple of years in a care home in Possilpark with dementia and unfortunately passed away yesterday.
