Defender Hakeem Odoffin’s third Accies goal was enough to ensure we picked up our first home point of the season in a 1-1 draw with Dundee United.
The defender, who had not scored a professional goal before joining Accies, is delighted to be able to contribute to the team’s attack.
Odoffin said: “I am delighted to get on the scoresheet, we were looking for three points. We will take the point and build on it. It’s our first point at home. We have to build on that and keep picking up points at home.”
The 22 year old has praised the hard work and resilience of the Accies squad as they fought back from a goal down to earn a point having conceded early on.
He said: “We were looking for three points, I don’t think we started as aggressively and on the front foot as we wanted to.
“We have to take responsibility for how we start games, we don’t always want to be fighting our way back but when we do have to we know we can do it.”
Accies Head Coach Brian Rice was delighted with Hakeem’s performance. Rice said: “He is a brave young man, he will put his body on the line. He has done really well since he came in and long may it continue.”
The versatile defender has been a dominating force at the heart of the defence alongside Shaun Want.
Odoffin is looking to build on their strong start: “We have to build on it, we have to keep working on what we do well and identify where we need to improve.”
As Accies look ahead to a tough away fixture against Hibs Odoffin hopes the squad can carry their second half performance into the match.
He said: “We have to go into every game looking to get a good result, it’s a tough league, there are no easy games, we have to show that confidence we have and the fight from the first minute until the last.”
