Appearance against Rangers the first of many Munro hopes

Kyle Munro became the latest academy graduate to make an appearance for the Accies first team on Saturday as a second-half substitute and the versatile defender hopes this appearance will be the first of many.

Munro said: “It was fantastic, I hope there is many more to come, I just have to keep going in training and keep working hard and showing the gaffer I am worthy of my place in the squad.”

The 18-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Clydebank, praised the influence his junior football experience in preparing him to push for first-team football this season: “Playing junior last season helped me a lot I think. To come here now and play against Rangers was tough but I enjoyed it.”

The defender, who could feature against Livingston following the suspension of Scott McMann, hopes he can use the international break to prove he is a suitable replacement.

He said: “I have to do all I can in training, show the gaffer what I can do and hopefully get in the team and from there do enough to stay in the team.”

Munro, who has been part of all five squads so far this season, believes the international break has come at the right time for the Accies squad.

He said: “I think it has come at the right time. Hopefully, we will come out the other end of it better off and in the fixtures that follow pick up points.”

Accies return to league action with an away fixture against Livingston on Saturday the 12th of September. Kick-off 3 pm.
