Brian Rice reveals his Accies side are really looking forward to Saturday’s Lanarkshire derby
Ahead of Saturday’s clash with rivals Motherwell Head Coach Brian Rice insists his side are preparing for this match like they do any other.
He said: “I don’t see a different approach, it does feel different because it’s a derby, but its one we are really looking forward to.”
Rice also believes his side must take some confidence from their second-half performance against St Mirren last Saturday.
He said: “The second half was probably the best we have played this season, we created some chances so that is something we have taken away from last week.”
Despite a narrow defeat the Accies Head Coach has called for his players to make things right by picking up three points against our Lanarkshire rivals:
“Maybe we should have a point or two from the matches we have played so far, we need to address that on Saturday.”
Accies are unbeaten in the last two Lanarkshire derbies and picked up all three points during the last league visit to Fir Park. However, Rice believes it is time to move on from these results.
He said: “That’s last season, these are two completely different teams now, I think if you keep looking back the way too much you’ll never move forward.”
Midfielder David Templeton who recently returned from injury was delighted to be involved in some action ahead of the Lanarkshire derby.
Temps: “It felt good to get 90 minutes at the weekend. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go, it was my first game back, I missed pre-season. Hopefully, now I can keep myself in the team and get more minutes.”
Templeton who is no stranger to the Lanarkshire derby believes the match being played behind closed doors takes an added edge away from the fixture.
He said: “It’s always a bit more hectic, more in your face, while I was here we have always done quite well in these matches hopefully Saturday is no different. I was always one who liked having fans, even away fans, getting abuse I always thought it made me play better.”
