Luke Southwood believes last night’s performance shows “What Hamilton Academical are all about.”
Accies goalkeeper Luke Southwood believes he and his Accies teammates rose to the occasion in our victory over Rangers. Southwood said: “We are absolutely buzzing, everyone who was out there and the bench we were all outstanding as a team. Everyone gave their all for the team and I think we showed what Hamilton Academical is all about.”
The Accies side has turned in a number of battling performances against both Celtic and Rangers this season only to walk away empty-handed. However, Southwood believes this result is long overdue.
He said: “I feel like we haven’t been far away from this result when we have played both sides. It has been mistakes or a loss in concentration and we have been punished for it but today I think we deserve this, we maintained our concentration throughout and took our chance when it came and everyone gave everything they had tonight.”
Southwood however, insisted he and his Accies teammates are looking to build momentum from here. He said: “It’s brilliant to come here and make good saves as an individual but all that matters is the three points.
That’s what we needed tonight and I’m glad we got them. We said in the dressing room there we can’t rest on this, it’s only one game we have another massive game on Saturday. We will enjoy the moment but we go again Saturday.”
After successive clean sheets, Southwood hopes this is the beginning of defensive solidity for the final part of the season. He said: “We’ve kept two clean sheets in a row, hopefully, we can build on that and cut the sloppy goals out like we were giving away previously. So hopefully now like we said we can build on the momentum from this, rest up, and go again on Saturday.”
Southwood and his teammates take on Kilmarnock this Saturday (7th March) in our first match following the victory over Rangers. Tickets are available on the day as you can pay at the gate. Kick-off 3pm.
